Welcome to our website!

In the early twentieth century the Croatian people embraced the great ideals of the Radić brothers and joined the branches of the HPSS in large numbers. These branches promoted education, through which national awareness and self-confidence grew. Croatian cooperatives, the Croatian Sokol and other organizations were founded.

Our ancestors brought these noble principles to Canada and officially founded HSS Ontario as early as 1933. In the following years they continued their work across Canada, promoting patriotism and the sovereignty of the Croatian state.

2018 Annual Meeting of the HSS “Ivan Gundulić” Branch in Vancouver

Heavy snow in Vancouver and the surrounding area pushed it back, but on March 4, 2018, the Vancouver HSS branch “Ivan Gundulić” held its annual meeting.

For quite a few years now, this gathering of HSS members has been one of friendship and co-operation. What pleases me is that most members don’t try to dodge the duties of office, so electing new committees is quick and painless.

The annual meeting itself was truly brief, chaired by long-time member Stipe Duralija, and it was followed by what has become our customary spread: roast suckling pig, all kinds of salads, sweets, coffee and so on. Good homemade wine and sauerkraut were there in abundance.

Highlights:

  • the first woman to serve as a branch president in Canada was elected.
  • cooking and washing the dishes afterwards are strictly men’s work.

All in all, a very successful annual meeting.

The names of the executive committee members are listed under the “Vancouver” link on this website.
